Lamine Yamal leads artificial intelligence predictions for the 2026 Ballon d'Or, while Harry Kane holds the favorite status among commercial bookmakers. The split in forecasting models emerges less than 24 hours before the award is presented at the London Palladium. The trophy recognizes the best player in world football for the 2025-26 season.

French data analysis firm Avisia released a probability model on October 26. The model assigns Yamal, the 19-year-old Barcelona winger, a 23 percent chance of winning. Kane, the England captain, follows with a 21 percent probability. Kylian Mbappe and Rodri are tied for third place at 19 percent each. Lionel Messi rounds out the top five with an 18 percent likelihood of securing a ninth award.

Commercial betting markets tell a different story. Bookmakers currently list Kane as the outright favorite with approximately 70 percent probability. This discrepancy highlights a divergence between algorithmic data analysis and market sentiment in the final day of the voting process.

Public opinion among football figures is divided. Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone supports Messi, who recently retired from international football. Simeone stated that Messi played at a high level after the World Cup. Former Italy international Marco Materazzi also favors Messi, noting that the Argentine demonstrated a superior level of performance at age 38.

England teammates have voiced support for Kane. Jude Bellingham, who is also on the shortlist, described Kane as a hard-working and honest player. Bellingham confirmed that a Kane victory is definitely possible. Anthony Gordon, a Barcelona teammate of Yamal, praised the Spanish winger's youth and unique talent level.

Mbappe receives backing from Real Madrid teammate Aurelien Tchouameni, who described the Frenchman's recent season as incredible. Mbappe leads in raw statistical output for the 2025-26 campaign. He finished as the top scorer in La Liga with 25 goals and led the Champions League with 15 goals. He also won the Golden Boot at the World Cup and set the all-time record for World Cup goals with 12.

Kane recorded 73 goals last season, the highest total by any player since Messi scored 82 in 2011-12. However, neither Kane nor Mbappe won a major trophy with their clubs or national teams. Kane won the Bundesliga with Bayern Munich, but England finished third in the World Cup. Mbappe did not win a title with Real Madrid or France during the award-eligible period.

Yamal's case rests on team success rather than individual scoring records. He won the World Cup with Spain and the La Liga title with Barcelona. Injuries affected his personal statistics, but his team accolades align with historical trends. Only four of the last 19 Ballon d'Or winners failed to win a major international or European club trophy in the same year.

If Yamal wins, he would become the youngest recipient of the award. He would surpass Brazilian Ronaldo, who was 21 years old when he won the prize in 1997. The winner will be announced at the ceremony in London on October 26.
