Irene Miller stepped off a plane in Florida this week only to find Osceola County deputies waiting with handcuffs. The 50-year-old woman from Kissimmee was arrested after authorities said she left her four children unsupervised overnight while she worked in Las Vegas.

Body camera footage captured the scene Friday morning as officers met Miller at the terminal. They escorted her through the airport and took her into custody. She was booked into the Orange County Jail on four counts of child neglect without great bodily harm.

The incident began the night of October 21. One of Miller's children called 911 to report that a dumbbell had fallen on her 9-year-old brother's head. Deputies arrived at the home shortly after 8:30 p.m. and found the four children, ages 9, 11, 12, and 14, with no adults present.

Fire rescue crews transported the injured boy to Celebration Hospital, where he was treated and discharged. A deputy spoke with Miller by phone that night. She explained she was in Las Vegas for work and planned to return on October 23. Deputies noted she had left Florida on October 18.

Miller told investigators she had hired a babysitter from Tampa to help the children get ready for school in the mornings. The agreement did not require the sitter to stay overnight. The children's father agreed to take them to his home while detectives arranged to meet Miller's flight.

Sheriff Chris Blackmon said the department would not tolerate child neglect. "These cases will be investigated, and charges will be brought against the parents who are not properly supervising or caring for their children," Blackmon said.
